About the Artist: Jeannie R. Johnson

In  1983, Jeannie took an oil painting class along with her mother. She struggled with it but kept trying anyway. She decided to try a different class and discovered a passion. A couple of years later someone asked her to teach her daughter how to paint with oils. After a few months of teaching one person, she put an ad in the paper and started teaching classes. She began with ten students. This grew to over forty-five regular students in nine different classes. She now keeps her classes to four per week. She doesn't teach weekly classes in the summer but conducts week-long art day camps for kids.

Jeannie is primarily self-taught although she has studied under many different instructors over the years and takes classes whenever there is opportunity for them. She enjoys working in many different mediums. Lately she has been using acrylics--a bit like oils which she loves but they dry faster. She also recently discovered encaustics, which has opened a new vista of creativity.

Jeannie is endorsed by The National Art Show. Artists from all over the country gather together in Ellensburg, WA, the third weekend in May, to share their work with collectors from all over the state. Her work can be seen in private and corporate collections across the country. She has had gallery representation in both Washington and Idaho. She has been represented at Two Rivers Gallery in Wenatchee, Washington.

Jeannie works plein aire and from her studio. She enjoys other artists' works and gets much inspiration from them. One of her favorite artists is Andrew Wyeth. Most of her original paintings are available as giclees and cards.

Jeannie lives with her husband in Ellensburg, Washington. He is the pastor of Chestnut Street Baptist Church. They have three children and ten grandchildren. She welcomes questions and ideas; feel free to drop her an email at info@jeannieraejohnson.com or call her anytime at 509-962-4644.
